Independence Day & the Peach Festival (7/4/12)

We got up early on Independence Day, as I was going to take some belly pics of Pete’s youngest sister, Elizabeth. She’s about 6 months pregnant. We went to the Riverwalk, and found some naturally nice spots to take pictures of her, and some of her and her son. Pete was there to keep his nephew busy when he wasn’t needed in pictures. Heh. It was starting to get hot…..so we left. Plus none of us had had breakfast.

Pete and I ate something I’d rather not have for breakfast – McDonald’s, but Chick-Fil-A didn’t open til after breakfast (of course, now we might be boycotting them because of their hugely anti-gay sentiments – which do not bode well with either of us). While eating, we discussed what we were going to do today. There had been talk of a BBQ or a boil, but neither were panning out. So, I said let’s go to the Lexington County 53rd Peach Festival in Gilbert, SC (about 40 min from us). Pete, mentioned the heat, but decided we could go. I got ready fast, and we left close to lunchtime.

When we got near the festival, some nice guy pointed out a parking spot to us…and we were like awesome! Little did we know we had to hike up a hill about a mile (probably more like a half mile) in the hot middle of the day sun! I was nice and sweaty by the time we got to the festival, which I hate. O’well.

The Peach Festival was pretty big, I was surprised, but should have known by it being its 53rd! It had art vendors along a stretch with no shade! All the food vendors and entertainment were in and out of shade in what seemed like a park! That was nice. Also, there were rides and a car show (in the sun, that we had to walk around and see).

We found ourselves some peach cobbler topped with peach ice cream to enjoy…and it did not disappoint! Then we had a peach sizzler drink that did not impress me, but it was cold…and those ice cubes went a long way in the heat!

All in all, we saw everything, tried peach stuff…bought peach BBQ sauce and SC peaches, all in an hour! LOL. And, then it was a walk back down that hill (ahhh) and to the car. Oh sweet A/C…

After cooling down…and doing who knows what…Pete’s brother Anthony wanted to know what we were up to. Well, him and his girlfriend, Shannon, came over and all of us decided that we should enjoy Domino’s pizza! Ha. None of us felt like cooking and no one was prepared for a cookout…so Domino’s to the rescue! Then we played a round of Apples to Apples. I was a big baby…cuz I was losing, and then…I somehow won! Don’t know how that works, but I’ll take it!

And that was our 4th of July. All in all a good day!
