SELF Mag’s Drop 10 in 5 Wks – Week 2

Last week I completed week 2 of the SELF Magazine’s Drop 10 in 5 Weeks ‘program’. There were some things that had this week a bit mixed up and difficult, but it still went Monday to Friday. Sat & Sun were rest days. Everyday is warm up 5 min, cool down 5 min. And, when a scale is used its for walk/jog/run with 1 being the easiest and 10 being the toughest. Shannon is still doing the workouts with me.

Cardio Day 1 Felt pretty good, but my shins started hurting from all the starting and stopping.

  • Sprint at Level 10 for 8 sec.
  • Recover at Level 4 for 12 sec.
  • Repeat intervals for 20 minutes. This was 1.69 miles in 26.35 minutes. Earlier in the day I did 2 sets of 8 reps each biceps and back with 5 lbs weights.

Strength Day 1 Again the 8 Easy Toning Moves 12 reps x2. I used 4lbs weights this week.

  1. Seesaw Sculptor
  2. Booty Lifter
  3. Side Slimmer
  4. Pick-Me-Up Press
  5. Total Transformer
  6. The Mermaid
  7. Kick-It
  8. Super Plank (We actually did this week)Legs hurt from the day before, so it was tough at times, but we did it. We both felt awkward doing the Super Plank, hoping it’ll get better with time.

Strength Day 2 It was raining and cold out, so we decided to do 2 days of strength in a row. Same as above. A little bit easier today. Cardio Day 2 I pushed it this day!

  • Sprint for 60 sec. at Level 9
  • Recover for 3 min. at Level 4
  • Repeat 6 times Pushing it was bad…well my time was good, but my shins felt bad and to boot I got calf cramps the last two sets. Realized later that evening that I had shin splints…and I might have iced them. Anyway, it was 1.68 mile walk/jog in 25.04 minutes. A little faster than Monday!

Cardio Day 3 Due to the shin pain and potential shin splints, I decided that we’d ride bikes today. Thought we would do double the distance since on bikes, but that did not happen. I felt awkward riding Pete’s bike (seat all the way down), with Shannon riding my bike (seat all the way down) and then didn’t know where to go in the neighborhood. And, Pete’s gears were being funky and got stuck at 1-6…not that 3-1 had felt like itself anyway.

  • 2.5 miles at level 6Well, GPS said it was 2.57 miles, but it kept pausing and wasn’t tracking correctly, so I estimate we did another mile – maybe 3.5. Time was 33 minutes. My shins hurt after, but nothing like after Wed’s walk/jog…so that was an improvement.

I do think resting up on Saturday and Sunday and more icing on Thurs and Fri nights definitely helped my shin splints, but I think I’ll be taking it easy with the cardio (this week). So happy another week is completed! And, I managed to get back down to at least my so-called starting weight consistently…so phew…lost those 2 bad weeks of eating weight!
